Huaca Pucllana
Milo decided to wake us up bright and early so we took advantage and decided to do some some site seeing this morning, we went to Huaca Pucllana. We got there just before it opened but they were running a little slow so we had to wait awhile. We killed the time by getting a lecture from a random white Peruvian about how America is going downhill and the way to fix it is for good Americans to write good textbooks. Weird. And to top it off, the whole time that he was speaking to us, he kept his hands down his pants (which were held up by not one, but two belts). Once we broke free from that mess, Milo spent the rest of the time we had to wait, dancing. He is so in to Yo Gabba Gabba right now and loves to dance, he swings his arms around and bends his knees up and down, its so cute! Finally we got inside and had a nice English tour. It was very interesting and we had a lot of fun visiting the site. Huaca Pucllana is an ancient pyramid/ceremonial center built by the Lima culture sometime between 200 and 700 AD and it's basically down the street from us, right in the middle of Miraflores. They only started preserving and excavating the site in the 1980's and It is only half excavated our guide said it would be another 30 years before the excavation and restoration is complete. They don't know what they will find, but they expect that there will be a lot more artifacts and sacrifices since the side they have yet to excavate faces the ocean and the Lima's worshiped the ocean. Before they started working on it, the site was private land and on top of part of it was a BMX bike park. Crazy. On the site they had some of the animals that would have been around when the Lima culture was living, they had llamas, alpacas, and guinea pigs. Our guide was telling us how delicious cuy (guinea pigs) taste and how we are the weird ones because we have food as a pet. Milo for sure loved the animals the most. We had a great time sight seeing, it was an awesome morning!
