Happy Birthday Daddy!

Today is my Dad's Birthday! My dad is awesome.... although he is getting older he doesn't act like it! I love him for it. I just got off the phone with him and he told me about all the pranks that he set up for April Fools at work for tomorrow morning ... he taped the key hole, put vaseline on the door handles & phone, jammed the printer, left a bunch of bogus messages, etc. Thanks for being the best Dad in the world! I love you. Happy Birthday!

Murder in Sin City

For our friend Jordan's birthday his wife threw a Murder Mystery party, "Murder in Sin City". We were given parts, asked to dress up and act the character. It was a lot of fun.  Since Felicia and Brinlee were in town they came along too. Here is Brinlee, dressed in her business attire. She was Clean Jean the Casino Concierge.

Felicia was Hot Slot Sal, A gambler.

The best part about Felicia's costume is we went to some shops in Haliewa before going to the party. So Felicia was dressed in her Cheetah skirt and loads of make up. She got lots of looks and a few cat calls.

Here is Jordan and me. Jim Beam the bartender & Lucy Legs the showgirl. Jordan has became pretty good and making shirley temples. My boyfriend for the night was Elvis ... and he proposed to me. Unfortunately, I don't have a picture of us. I didn't do any dances, but I rocked the black jack table. I made like $1,000 ... in fake money. (Vegas here I come)

Here is some more shots from the night ... I should have taken more pictures.

Happy Birthday Jordan G. Thanks for the Awesome Party!

PCC Night Show

We took Felicia and Brinlee to the night show at PCC. After a little sweet talking, our friend Brian got us in for free. (thanks Brian) Brian is an awesome white kid, from Rexburg, Idaho. He plays the drums in the night show, with a bunch of big Polynesian men ... he definitely stands out. He is awesome. If you wanna see him drum in the night show you better come quick... he is only here for 2 more weeks .... we will miss you Brian. Here are some pictures of the drummers that I stole from his blog ...
Here we all are enjoying our Pineapple Delights during intermission ...

Dear Prince Kuhio,

Dear Prince Kuhio,

I don't exactly know who you are, but thank you for the much needed holiday. Your day always comes at the best time of the year. This year, it meant a much needed break from school for Jordan and some quality time with our spring break visitors, Felicia & Brinlee.

We celebrated your day by hiking Diamond Head Crater, Renting boogie boards, hanging out, and getting lunch at Waikiki, getting Leonard's malasadas and hiking the Makapu'u Point and checking out the lighthouse. Although we didn't get to see any whales we had a great time. We all came home sun burnt and tired. It was perfect.

So Mr. Kuhio, thanks for whatever you did to create this perfect Hawaiian holiday. We will celebrate it every year of the rest of our lives!

Love,
Meagan & Jordan Flake

I know I look fat and/or with child in this photo ... but i promise its just the wind blowing up my dress... haha

Newlywed Style

Newlyweds often shop garage sales or are given hand-me-downs, which i love because you can do stuff like this to your furniture, that you would never even think of doing had you spent hundreds of dollars on it ... (found via design*sponge)

I think fire engine red would be awesome!

F21/Greece

The other night we were talking about our future ... hopes, dreams, wishes, etc. One of our goals is to go to Greece. Jordan served his mission in Greece and has the strongest desire to go back. So we were talking money and trying to figure out if this is even an option ... we discussed how paying for grad school/law school and having a baby sometime in the future would cost LOTS of money. So we decided ....Greece is probably not an option for a while.

Then, we went on to do our own thing. Jordan went into our bedroom and started on some accounting homework and I checked my email and look what I got in the mail ....

So ... I think its a sign: Forever 21 is going to pay for us to go to Greece. I mean what are the chances of that? Who gives away 7 days of swimwear and a trip to Greece? I would think that It would almost aways be 7 days of swimwear and a trip to Hawaii (and we don't need one of those) ... So I am thinking It's a sign.

Leave your address if you want a postcard :)

Brainstorm

Every semester BYU Hawaii has a function called Brainstorm. We have made it a tradition to participate in the activity. It is like a college bowl type game, most of the questions we don't have answers for and I am pretty sure last semester we came in dead last, but they always have awesome prizes and lots of food. Last semester, even though our team did awful all four of us got pretty cool door prizes. Mine just happened to be a gift certificate for two at the Palm Terrace restaurant at Turtle Bay. Last night we finally used our certificate and I think that I am still full ... It was an awesome buffet of Hawaiian Food. So, Brainstorm for this semester is on Tuesday ... Wish us luck!
Nate Bliss and Kaitlyn, I wish you were here to participate with us.

Before/After

When I called Jessica on her Birthday (Happy Birthday Jessica) she demanded that I post something new on my blog. Nothing really exciting has been happening for in our lives, just Jordan's midterms and me working (working=surfing the Internet while getting paid). So to satisfy Jessica's demand for a new post I thought I would share my latest Goal: Learn the Art of Re-Upholstery and other Furniture Makeovers.

Anthropologie is probably one of my favorite sites to look at ... They always have the most unique, cute, expensive things there. For example, they have a lot of cool furniture! Chairs and couches with fun, bright, exciting patterns that are thousands of dollars, Like the one below. And Design*Sponge is probably one of my favorite blogs to look at .... They have creative people creating anthropologie like creations from random old furniture, for a fraction of the price. (love it!)

So anyways I have been reading up on upholstery-how to's and I have made a goal. Once we have a house or larger apartment back on the mainland I am going to 1) Go to yard sales and start craigslisting for old cheap furniture 2) I am going to make it awesome! (My mom is already really good at this so I figure it's in my genes)
I've already began making this goal a reality on a very small scale.... Last Friday we went and picked up the mirror that I found on Craigslist for $10 ... I will be painting the frame soon, its the perfect addition to our bedroom!

I might be the only one, but ...

I am glad that Jason ended up with Molly.
Yes, I realize that what Jason did was a little shady, but Molly is just a better choice. For at least three reasons 1. She doesn't wear hideous snake dresses (see below) 2. She doesn't have a nasty tramp stamp and 3. She doesn't run, jump, and wrap her legs around Jason every time she sees him
But still he should have went with Jillian ...

tips for a chic & gracious life

While I was at work this afternoon, trying to kill the last half hour I read this article about Sarah Jessica Parker in Harper's Bazaar. At the end of the article SJP shared her tips for a chic and gracious life: (I liked them, thought I would share)

• Try, for every 20 e-mails you send, to write a letter, an old-fashioned letter, and post it. Remember how it felt to receive an actual letter or postcard in the mail? (i love writing letters & getting mail)
• Keep a bucket filled with candy. Cheap, good candy. From butterscotch hard candies to Bulls-Eyes to spice drops. Pretty cheap per pound, low calorie, and great late at night while working or staying up too late reading or watching television. It will scratch the itch. (i have the biggest sweet tooth!)
• Use your local library. So few people do anymore. And if you are a parent, introduce your children to their neighborhood library. It will give them a real sense of independence to have their own library card and enjoy borrowing books. (it's been awhile, but I remember going the library when I was little. I loved getting Arthur & The Bernstien Bears Books)

• Empty out your purse twice a week, tossing all coins into a mason jar, an old coffee can, or a strange-shaped and not particularly practical porcelain jar. It’s wonderfully surprising to discover what can accumulate. You can give the money to charity (always feels good), and it’s grand to do in the spring when charities are not on people’s minds. (We are saving up to go to Greece ... I wonder how long we are going to have to wait until enough money will accumulate)

• Cook or bake something outrageous that you are convinced will be impossible. The advantage of this endeavor is that it can actually get you cooking more meals at home. Once you are triumphant with the absurdly difficult, a meal for yourself or your family will seem like a cakewalk (so to say). And it can be a great money saver.

• Walk more. It simply feels great. And for those who have an “allergy” to working out, it’s a great way to get the blood moving. If you are feeling extra adventurous, try putting some speed into that walk. (I love walking to work in the morning, It feels great to get out and enjoy the day for a little while before I am trapped in my office)

• Read the editorial page of your local paper. It introduces you to opinion and can be terrifically provocative and perhaps a great motivating force for you to get involved in your community, regardless of your political ideology.

• Get eight hours of sleep, though I never do. (I always do!)
Do any of you have any tips for a chic & gracious life? read the full article here.

I've been Craigslisting

I have big plans for this ornate mirror ... i hope they call me back! PS. Mom, I am surprisingly super excited to come home this summer and go to yard sales & find treasures I guess I am your daughter after all.
