"No thanks, I think I'll just try my eyes"

For a few months I had started to notice that Milo's eyes would cross and his left eye would occasionally turn inward. I was a little concerned that he might have a lazy eye, like my Sister Natalie did. I put off taking him in for a few months, but finally I couldn't ignore the feeling that I had and so we took him in to see an eye doctor. The doctor diagnosed him as being farsighted, explaining that because he was trying to focus his eyes so hard they would cross. He also explained that if it is left untreated it could progress into a lazy eye, as the brain will tell the eye to quit working so hard and it will eventually get "lazy." So I am grateful we got him in early enough to avoid an eye patch and all of that. The doctors opinion is that the glasses will be correctional, so hopefully not permanent. So far he has really done great with wearing them. As long as he is distracted by something else he usually forgets that they are even on his face. I started a little rewards chart where he gets to put a sticker at the end of each day, if he has done a good job with wearing this glasses. After he gets 20 stickers he gets a toy, so far it has been a good incentive. Although, he has come up with a few funny ways to get out of wearing his glasses, he loves to tell me that his nose is too itchy or he will say he needs a nap, since he knows he can't wear them in bed. One day, after I asked him to put his glasses on he responded, "No thanks mom, I think I'll just try my eyes." We sure love this cute boy, glasses and all!
